India and Israel Wednesday held wide-ranging talks on enhanced cooperation in military hardware production including equipment for Light Combat Aircraft, the development of which has suffered a setback following sanctions imposed after the Pokhran tests. Israeli Defence Secretary Amos Yaron, who arrived in New Delhi Tuesday night on a two-day visit, met his Indian counterpart Yogendra Narain. Yaron's visit was officially termed as a "goodwill" one and a return visit, since Narain had earlier gone to Israel. Official sources said the two sides discussed sale to India of surveillance systems, several electronic items and hand-held thermal imagers. India's requirement for early warning aircraft also figured in the parleys, they said. During the 1999 Kargil conflict, India had used Israeli-made Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to spot Pakistani gun positions. Tel Aviv had also supplied equipment for Mirage-2000 warplanes to carry out bombings during night. Bureau Report
