Kathmandu, June 16: A controversy has erupted over who is the fastest Everest Summiteer with claims of the new record-holder now being challenged by his predecessor, an official said here. Twenty five-year-old Everest Summiteer Pemba Dorje Sherpa, who reached the peak in 12 hours and 45 minutes on May 23, has submitted an application to the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation asking it to investigate the claim of current title-holder Lakpa Ghelu Sherpa, a ministry official said. Earlier Ghelu ,36, who reached the summit in 10 hours 56 minutes on May 26, breaking Pemba's record was declared the fastest Summiteer in a statement issued by the ministry. The two Sherpas had scaled the world's highest peak in May this year as part of the celebrations to commemorate the golden jubilee of the first ascent to Mt Everest. Bureau Report
