Imphal, May 17: Repoll in 21 polling booths in outer Manipur parliamentary constituency, one of the two seats in the North-Eastern state, was continuing peacefully today amid heavy security, official reports said. Reports said repoll which began at 21 polling booths at outlying areas in outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat from 8 AM was proceeding peacefully. The repoll has been ordered by the Election Commission following incidents of rigging, booth capturing and violence.
Official sources said counting of votes for outer Manipur seat would be taken up on Wednesday.
Election to outer Manipur seat on April 20 could not be completed due to non-holding of repolls at various polling booths in time, sources said. The result of inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat which went to polls in second phase on April 26 had already been declared and it went to congress. Manipur has two parliamentary seats.
