New Delhi, Nov 20: Samajwadi Party MPs today staged a dharna at the main gate of Parliament to demand recall of Uttar Pradesh Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri for his "partisan" role in "shielding" the BSP-BJP government. The MPs criticised the Governor for his "unconstitutional and undemocratic statement" that SP should prove its majority in Uttar Pradesh, party sources said.
Asserting that it was abundantly clear that the Mayawati government had been reduced to a minority, the party MPs demanded that the governor should convene an emergency session of the state assembly for a trial of strength. The issue triggered pandemonium in Lok Sabha when Samajwadi Party member Devendra Singh Yadav manhandled BSP leader Rashid Alvi.
Those who offered dharna included Ramjilal Suman, Akhilesh Singh Yadav, Sushila Saroj, Dharamraj Singh Patel and Ramamurthi Verma. Bureau Report
