Kolkata, July 11: Security has been tightened around the N S C Bose International Airport here following the arrest of five persons just outside the airport in view of the Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's visit to the city next week.
Five "undesirable elements" were arrested in joint raids outside the airport premises last night, which the police described as 'preventive'.
Meanwhile, security alert has already been sounded in the airport area, airport sources said adding that fool-proof security measures were being finalised at the joint meeting of different coordinating agencies, including the CISF, Bureau of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India, and State Armed Police, in the last two days. The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in the city to attend the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) on July 16.
The airport sources further said that raids would continue, particularly in the non-operational area of the airport. Apart from further intensifying the security measures, checks and re-checks inside the airport premises had already been started.
However, security agencies were tight-lipped about the measures, but said it would be fool-proof. Bureau Report
