Ahmedabad, Dec 06: Caretaker Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi has described the December 12 election to the Gujarat Assembly as a ''democratic war against terrorism'' in which the voter will respond against the bullet by using the power of the ballot. ''This election is part of the international war against terrorism and I am sure the voters would defeat the designs of the terrorist forces'', he told reporters.
Modi said the people of Gujarat have a 'golden opportunity' to give a befitting reply to the acts of terrorism in the country. ''next week's poll is a festival of democracy in which the BJP has given a democratic face to the global war against terrorism,''
The chief minister, who is contesting from the Maninagar Assembly constituency, said it was time, the people took the initiative against terrorism and influence the course of politics in the country.

Asked how the December 12 election was different from other elections in the country, Modi said for the first time a ruling party, the BJP, did not shy away from the poll. ''It is the first time that the opposition parties, led by the Congress, not only shied away from early elections but also 'accepted defeat' even before the polls'', he claimed.
He said the opposition and Congress leadership tried their utmost to have his 'Gaurav Yatra' stalled and campaigned against it for nearly two months. ''They knew very well their fate in the elections if the Gaurav Yatra succeeded,'' he said.
According to him, the outcome of the election would also make it clear that the people wanted a government in Gujarat and other states that could deal with the terrorist and ''pseudo-secular'' forces. Bureau Report
