New Delhi, Aug 08: CBI has questioned several top officials of the Uttar Pradesh government including its Chief Secretary D S Bagga in connection with the controversial
multi-crore Taj heritage corridor project.
Highly-placed CBI sources said that besides Bagga, Principal Secretary (Finance) N C Bajpai was questioned by the CBI team to find out as to who had cleared the controversial project.
The CBI registered a preliminary enquiry (PE) after the Supreme Court ordered a probe into the alleged major irregularities and illegalities in the project.
The apex court also directed the agency to submit its investigation report within two months.
The questioning of senior officials was carried out to ascertain the identity of the officials who gave a green signal to the project without mandatory environment and other statutory clearances.
Incidently, Bajpai headed a three-member team appointed by the state government to carry out its probe into the controversial project.
The sources said that over a dozen officials from the UP government's environment and finance department had been quizzed by the CBI to fix responsibility about violation of the laid down norms near the 17th century Mughal monument Taj Mahal.
