Cairo, Sept 13: Egyptian authorities today
decided to allow a book on women and love that raised
objections from an Islamist MP to go back on sale, a day after
it was ordered off the shelves for a review of its contents.
The General Books Authority (GBA), quoted by Egypt's
news agency Mena, said, "The author is a recognised poet and
responsible journalist ... And the book was edited by a
national publisher" with prior official approval.
The book, "Commandments Of Love For Women" by Ahmed
al-Shahawi, was published earlier this year.
The GBA found it was "a literary work of high quality" and not contrary to Islam as charged. Bureau Report
