New Delhi, Nov 19: India and Mauritius are likely to sign an extradition treaty and other agreements during the week-long visit of Mauritian Prime Minister Paul R Berenger to India from today which is mainly aimed at renewing close contacts and further bolstering the strategic partnership between the two countries.
An agreement for the purchase of a Dornier aircraft by Mauritius from HAL will also be inked, an official statement said yesterday. The other accords are for cooperation in the field of non-conventional energy sources and setting up of the World Hindi Secretariat.
New Delhi is attaching significance to the visit, the first official one abroad by 58-year old Berenger who took over the key slot on September 30 from Anerood Jugnauth,73, in line with an electoral pact the two signed three years back.
After his day's halt in Mumbai today and a visit to Goa, he will arrive here on Thursday for talks the next day on a wide range of issues with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and other leaders.

An official statement ahead of his visit said Berenger and Vajpayee would hold delegation-level talks on November 21.

Berenger will call on President APJ Abdul Kalam, vice president Bhairon Singh Shekawat and have meetings with Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and HRD Minister Murli Manohar Joshi.
