Lok Sabha Election

Lok Sabha Election

One of the biggest events of 2024 in India was the Lok Sabha election, held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1 to elect 543 members to the Lok Sabha. The results were announced on July 4.

 

 

State Elections

Apart from the Lok Sabha elections, several assembly elections were also in states including Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Major political turmoil erupted in 2024 following the arrests of two chief ministers. Then-Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21, in connection with a money laundering probe related to the Delhi excise policy. Earlier, on January 31, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was also arrested in an alleged money laundering case. Currently, both leaders have been granted bail.
