Srinagar, May 12: Seven persons, six security personnel and a militant, were today killed and 15 injured in Jammu and Kashmir where ultras targeted securitymen at three places and tried to loot a bank. Three heavily-armed militants hurled grenades and fired on a joint party of army, police and CRPF this morning at Haihama Chowk in Kupwara district town this morning.
An exchange of fire took place as the security personnel retaliated in which two CRPF personnel and a militant, identified as a Pakistani Mohammad Ibrahim of Lashker-e-Toiba, were killed and six personnel were injured, the sources said.
The other militants escaped, they said adding that an AK rifle, six magazines, 43 rounds and four hand grenades were recovered from the killed militant. Two militant outfits, Al-Nasireen and Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen have claimed responsibility for the attack.
A marine commando was killed and three army personnel were injured when militants opened fire on a joint patrol party of 15 Rashtriya Rifles and marine commandoes in Baramulla district.
Militants ambushed security forces at Nadihal in Bandipora area of the district killing one jawan and injuring three others. Two policemen were shot dead by suspected militants when they foiled their plans to loot a bank at Shopian town of Pulwama district.
Three civilians were also injured in the firing, the sources said. Bureau Report
