Phulbani, Jan 16: Normal life in the hill-locked Kandhamal district of Orissa came to a standstill after the mercury dipped to below one degree celsius this morning, official sources said. According to the meteorological observatory here, the temperature in Phulbani town was recorded at 1.6 degree celsius at 5.30 am today.
Last night was the coolest of the season so far, the sources said adding the temperature at Daringbadi, a scenic tourist resort, and some other interior places had dipped below one degree celsius.
Cold wave conditions also prevailed in several other parts of the state, the weather office in Bhubaneswar said.
Keonjhar had recorded a minimum temperature of 6.6 degree celsius while Jharsuguda in western Orissa shivered at 8 degree celsius. The minimum temperature at Cuttack was recorded at 8.5 degree celsius, much below the normal temperature, while Bhubaneswar registered 12.4 degree celsius.

The minimum temperature at Balasore was 10 degree celsius, the sources said.
