New Delhi, Apr 12: India continues to be lucky in terms of SARS epidemic with no confirmed case even as one person was admitted in the infectious diseases hospital and later discharged, officials said today. Four persons are undergoing treatment in hospitals across the country. All are showing improvements, a health ministry officials said adding they do not fit into SARS definition.
A 37-year-old man was admitted in the hospital here yesterday as he had visited Bangkok but since he did not fit into the case definition of SARS, he was discharged today, the officials said.
He had first gone to AIIMS where he was advised to go the infectious diseases hospital, the officials said adding his blood samples had been sent for testing at the National Institute of Communicable Diseases as a precautionary measure.
A 32-year-old man is still under observation in Goa medical hospital. He was admitted for fever and cough and his chest X-ray showed air in the chest, a condition called pneumothorax, the officials said. His blood reports are awaited and his wife, who travelled with him, was alright.
One patient each was undergoing treatment in Port Blair, Kolkata, and Cochin, the officials said.
Meanwhile, Maria, who was undergoing treatment in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital was discharged, they said. Her reports are negative for SARS. One patient each in Hyderabad and Chennai was also discharged, they said.
Worldwide, the number of SARS cases had gone up to 2890 with 116 deaths. Two more countries, South Africa and Japan, were added in the list of SARS affected areas, taking the number 19. Bureau Report
