The king of pop, Michael Jackson, and a host of international stars will rock Beijing ahead of an historic heavyweight boxing match, China`s State Press reported. World Boxing Association Champion John Ruiz and Evander Holyfield are to stage the first heavyweight title fight in China on August 8. Chinese authorities, looking to promote Beijing as a city that can organise major cultural and sporting events to help win the right to host the 2008 Olympic games, have recruited Jackson and a host of other stars to give the boxing match an even wider international audience.
His pop-star sister, Janet Jackson, the Backstreet Boys, film maker Steven Spielberg and actor Michael Douglas will join a cast of Asian stars at the cultural event to be held at the great hall of the people in Central Beijing, the Beijing Evening News said. Proceeds of the event will go to charities aiding Chinese orphans, the paper said.
