New Delhi, July 15: Troubled by Punjab Vigilance Bureau raids at the properties owned by him and his father Parkash Singh Badal, Akali Dal MP Sukhbir Singh Badal today demanded probe by an independent agency into the corruption charges levelled against them but desisted from seeking intervention of the NDA government at the Centre of which his party is a constituent.
New Delhi, July 15: Troubled by Punjab Vigilance Bureau raids at the properties owned by him and his father Parkash Singh Badal, Akali Dal MP Sukhbir Singh Badal today demanded probe by an independent agency into the corruption charges levelled against them but desisted from seeking
intervention of the NDA government at the Centre of which his party is a constituent.
A day after state chief minister Amarinder Singh asserted
he would not allow any interference in his government's
actions, Badal said they would "fight" their battle on their
own against the "political vendetta" launched by the Congress
government.
On the Punjab government's decision to probe their family's assets abroad, Badal challenged Singh to prove that he or his father had investments abroad, declaring that "we will quit politics" if the charges were proved.
"There is a complete breakdown of law and order in the state. Human rights of people are being trampled and fake cases are being filed," Badal told.
Asked whether in such circumstances the party would seek central intervention, he said "we have the capacity to fight our own battle and we will fight legally and politically."
He, however, said the party had informed the Centre that "injustice is being done" in the state and it would be better to ask them whether they would intervene. Bureau Report
