Raipur, July 19: Amidst differences over the percentage of reservation, the BJP national executive today endorsed Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi`s formula of 20 per cent quota for women in Parliament and state assemblies with a provision of two seats in select constituencies on rotational basis. In a resolution adopted unanimously in the presence of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and other party top brass, the BJP recommended the implementation of the formula after delimitation of the constituencies.
The adoption of the resolution was preceeded by hectic deliberations in which several members, prticularly women, demanded 33 per cent reservation as envisaged earlier, highly placed party sources told.

Pointing out that it was BJP which had taken the initiative for women`s reservation, the resolution favoured passage of the bill in Parliament at the earliest and stressed on a consensus on the issue among all political parties to break the current deadlock.
Union Health Minister Sushma Swaraj, Agriculture Minister Rajnath Singh, firebrand leader Uma Bharti and parliamentary party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra, were among the prominent leader who placed their views on the draft resolution, the sources said. Bureau Report
