Chandigarh, June 26: Over 23,000 people from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Union Territory of Chandigarh have registered for this year's Amarnath Yatra beginning July 12. "The registration closes this Saturday and so far 21,846 people have registered themselves from the three states within a span of ten days, which is a record," area manager of Jammu and Kashmir bank K N Dhar said today.

He said from last year the yatris had been availing the facility to register themselves through J&K Bank branches across the country.

"Earlier there was centralised registration system in Jammu only, which caused lot of inconvenience to the yatris," he said.
J&K Bank's Chandigarh branch manager Ravi Kaul said that 1883 people had got themselves registered from this city so far, a figure which has tripled over last year. "We have already exhausted our allotted quota of registration cards."

Dhar said that 8,882 yatris had availed the option of an insurance cover.

"They also have an option to undertake the yatra which lasts for a month, either via Baltal or the Chandanwadi route (in Kashmir)," he added.
