New Delhi, Oct 14: The Supreme Court will today give a final hearing to a petition filed by DMK general secretary K Anbazghagan seeking transfer of two disproportionate asset cases against AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalithaa outside the state. A bench comprising justice S N Variava and Justice H K Sema had on September 15 last fixed today for the final hearing when counsel for parties informed the court that pleadings in the case had been complete and the case was ready for the final hearing. The apex court had, in February this year, stayed the trial proceedings in the two cases also involving R Sashikala and others on the allegations that the trial court was proceeding at a speed unknown to the criminal jurisprudence. The petitioner alleged that with Jayalalithaa being at the helm of affairs of governance, the public did not expect fair trial and had requested the apex court to transfer the cases to any place outside the state.
The bench also kept for hearing today an application of Subramanian Swamy, Janata Praty president, seeking impleadment in the matter before the apex court. Bureau Report
