Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday reiterated that an anti-terrorism measure such as the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO) would surely be implemented in his state. Talking to reporters in Varanasi, Mr Singh said that extremism had acquired dangerous proportions all over the country as well as the world and a serious domestic law was needed to effectively combat the menace. In a veiled attack on Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, he said that certain leaders may pledge support to organisations such as the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) but the state government would strictly suppress elements that favoured Osama bin Laden and considered Kashmir a part of Pakistan.
The CM alleged that some vested interests were attempting to ruin the law and order situation in the state before it goes to them polls. However, his government was taking all possible measures to check criminal activities. Bureau Report
