Kochi, Sept 19: Civil Aviation Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy today said that the functioning of airports in the country would not be affected by the nationwide relay fast by the airport employees protesting against privatisation of Delhi and Mumbai airports.
There is no proposal to privatise the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and only Mumbai and Delhi airports were being privatised as the country required world class airports for which world class infrastructure was needed, Rudy told a press meet here.
He reiterated that there would be no retrenchment of the AAI employees. The empowered committee would go into the parameters of the bids and working conditions of the employees, he said.
AAI employees in the two airports would be absorbed by the joint venture company for at least three years.
The minister said he had called the striking unions for discussion on September 23.
