New Delhi, Nov 24: In the midst of electioneering, Delhi Police have busted a racket engaged in preparing fake voter I-cards with the arrest of three persons and seized a number of forged electoral documents.
The three would prepare fake voter I-cards and sell these for rates between Rs 500 and Rs 2000 each, police said, adding 12 such cards, a large number of holograms, lamination sheets, photographs of prospective beneficiaries, a computer, three software CDs and some other items were seized from them.
The economic offences wing (EOW) of crime branch received a complaint that one Kamal Kumar was approaching people in Dabri area of south west Delhi to get their voter I-cards made and ensure inclusion of their names in voter list in lieu of monetary benefits, deputy commissioner of police (EOW) Dinesh Bhatt said.
The complainant was asked to strike a deal, he said adding he accordingly paid Rs 800 and in return got a voter I-card which was found to be fake.
A case was registered and investigations began.
During the probe, police arrested Kamal (27) and Vishal Jain (20). Their interrogation led to the arrest of main kingpin Anil Kumar, Bhatt said.
