Mumbai, Oct 20: Sayyad Mohammed Hanif, who allegedly masterminded the August 25 twin-blasts, was trained in making bombs by Lashkar-e-Toiba in mid-2002, co-conspirator Zaheed Patni has told the city police. Patni revealed during interrogation that though he is sure that LeT imparted training to Hanif, he does not remember whether it was at Sharjah or at a nearby place called Ajnan, police sources told news agencies here today.

During the training, Hanif used to shunt daily between Dubai and the training place, the sources added.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Satya Pal Singh admitted that Patni had made the revelation and added that his interrogation was still continuing.
Sources, however, said Patni denies having himself undergone any such training. "Patni also has no hesitation to confess that he visited the LeT headquarters at Dubai twice and knows some faces there", a senior crime branch official told news agencies.
The Mumbai Crime Branch plans to confront Sayyad Hanif on the information provided by Patni and hopes to derive more feedback from him. "It seems, Hanif is holding back important information and Patni's revelation might compel him to open up," the officer said.
Police had earlier arrested Sayyad Hanif, his wife Fahmida and associate Ashrat Shafi Ahmed Ansari for conspiring the August 25 twin blasts at Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar. Zaheed Patni was the fifth person to be booked in the crime, while one Nasir was killed in a police encounter. Altogether 53 people were killed and over 100 injured in the explosions.
