Moscow, Dec 05: Russia's foreign ministry delivered a statement of protest to the US embassy about the ongoing US sanctions against three Russian companies accused of violating nonproliferation norms.
Washington imposed the yearlong sanctions in September on Tula Design Bureau of Instrument Building, the state scientific production enterprise Bazalt and Rostov Airframe Plant 168. The companies sold "lethal military equipment" to countries accused of sponsoring terrorism, US officials allege.
Under the penalties, all three companies are prohibited from doing business with the United States, exporting their products to the United States and receiving some services and supplies from US firms.
The Russian foreign ministry, which strongly protested the decision at the time, followed up yesterday with another note of protest. Russia accused the United States of "extending its national legislation extraterritorially to foreign exporters."
Russian officials had earlier suggested the US sanctions were an attempt to push Russian companies out of a competitive market.

The Kremlin had also expressed disappointment that the sanctions were imposed at a time when Washington and Moscow are working closely together in the fight against international terrorism.
