Mumbai: A string of Bollywood celebrities have given vent to their anger over the collapse of a flyover in Kolkata, questioning the negligence and “corruption ingrained within us as a country” and stressing that it's "not an act of god".

The toll in the Kolkata flyover tragedy, which took place on Thurday, has risen to 24 by Friday morning. The disaster management teams continue efforts to find bodies and survivors trapped under the debris.


The flyover, which was still under construction, left scores of people and vehicles crushed under its debris.


Celebrities from diverse fields took to social media to condemn the accident and to pray for the victims and their families.

Amitabh Bachchan: A bridge has collapsed in Kolkata and many suffer. Our prayers go out for all. May god be with them. having spent a major part of the year in the city on work I feel I must have crossed this bridge often. Fate and time wait for no one... Tragedies do concern us and we hope always that the worst can be avoided but at times it just does not. Our prayers today for Kolkata.
