32 die of encephalitis in Assam in a week
Guwahati, July 22: At least 32 people have died of encephalitis in the Assam Medical College hospital (AMC) in the last one week, state director of health services Dr K Das said today.

About 56 patients afflicted with encephalitis from Dibrugarh, Sibsagar and Tinsukia districts of Assam, besides from neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh, were admitted to the AMC hospital, Das told a news agency here.
Of them 32 died in the hospital as per information received from the hospital authorities, he said.
However, the health director said that he had no information about outbreak of the disease in the three districts.
Stating that preventive measures had been taken to quell further spread of the disease, he said, a team of doctors would be visiting the three upper Assam districts to monitor the situation and also provide medical care to the affected.
