Amritsar, Aug 06: A meeting of Sikh clergy headed by Jathedar Akal Takht was yesterday held to discuss expulsion of Patna Sahib Gurdwara Parbandhak board chief and SGPC member Mohinder Singh Romana despite orders issued by Akal Takht Amritsar restrianing it.
Romana was suspended by Jathedar Takht Patna Sahib Iqbal Singh on June 30, 2003 for allegedly airing objectionable views over a holy book in America.
On July 24 Jathedar Akal Takht Gyani Joginder Singh Vedanti stayed the operation of the edict but general secretary of Gurdwara Patna Sahib removed Romana permanently as president of the Gurdwara Parbandhak board.
Vice Jathedar Hazoor Sahib Rattan Singh, who attended the meeting, said "we have great regard for the Akal Takht Amritsar and are ready to recognize it as a supreme Takht but Akal Takht Amritsar does not have any right to interfere in the working of Takht Patna Sahib and Takht Hazoor Sahib as it is not in its jurisdiction.
Akal Takht sources said Vedanti had sent invitation to Jathedar Takht Patna Sahib Iqbal Singh for the meeting but he did not attend it.
