Islamabad, Sept 03: Pakistan government is considering filing a case of treason against Benazir Bhutto for "disclosing" details of war plan briefings given to her when she was prime minister to the Indian media in a recent interview. The government is considering filing a case against the former Prime Minister because "she has committed an act of treason", Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said.
Bhutto had reported said that President Pervez Musharraf, who held the post of Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), during her second stint as Prime Minister, had proposed a military plan similar to Kargil to take over the mountain heights and then march on to Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. "This is a very serious matter and Article six of the Constitution can be invoked against her," an English daily quoted Rashid as saying.
Bhutto was quoted as saying in the interview that she had shot down the plan down as it had no exit strategy for Pakistan Army in the event of international pressure to withdraw the troops. The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs has been asked to give its opinion on the matter, the report quoted officials as saying.
The ruling party also plans to raise the issue in the National Assembly.
A similar plan was executed in 1999 during the tenure of deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Sharif said that over 4000 Pakistan soldiers were killed in the Kargil misadventure, which ended in a military fiasco for the Pakistan. Bureau Report
