Bangalore, Dec 18: A day after the Karnataka government announced a judicial probe into the killing of JD(U) leader H Nagappa, his family met Governor T N Chaturvedi and sought his intervention for a CBI probe into his death and asked for police protection. Nagappa's son-in-law Dr Kiran Patel, who, along with the JD(U) leader's son Preethan and JD(U) leader in the assembly P G R Sindhia, met the Governor, said they had told Chaturvedi that 'a grave injustice' had occurred and that only a CBI probe would help to get to the 'bottom of the truth'.
The Governor, Patel told a news agency, assured them that he would take up the matter with the authorities concerned.
Patel said they had been receiving 'unpleasant calls' and feared that 'those who killed Nagappa' might harm them. "At any cost, we will go ahead in the matter", he said.

The Karnataka cabinet had yesterday decided to hold a judicial probe either by a sitting or retired High Court judge into the mystery surrounding the death of Nagappa, whose decomposed body was recovered in the Chengadi forests on December eight, with different theories floating around on the circumstances of his death.
