Lucknow, June 14: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today offered to get a CBI inquiry instituted into the poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case if her family members make a request for it in writing. Mayawati told reporters here that the CB-CID inquiry into the case had been ordered on the "request" of Madhumita's family members.
She said that her government was in favour of an impartial probe but at the same time she wanted to ensure that no injustice was done to any one.

When told that the family members of the slain poetess had expressed doubts over the impartiality of the CB-CID probe, the Chief Minister said that she did not believe in "whatever is said orally".
“If the family members of Madhumita made a written request to the state police chief for a CBI probe, the government will immediately recommend a CBI inquiry,” she said.
When pointed out that only two days were left for the one month deadline she had set for the CB-CID team to complete the investigation into the case, the Chief Minister said that she did not want the inquiry to be done in haste and the time limit given to the CB-CID would be extended if the latter so desired.
