Chennai, May 17: The PMK today demanded that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa intervene immediately to solve the ongoing medical colleges students strike.
PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss, in a statement here, condemned
the disciplinary proceedings initiated against 1200 medical
college students and said the students were justified in their
demand for a ban on entry of private medical colleges.
The prolonged agitation had already resulted in six patients losing their lives for want of adequate medical attention. If the government doctors also joined the stir, medical services would be paralysed in the state, he said and urged the government should not to stand on 'false prestige'. Jayalalithaa should cut short her holiday at Hyderabad and return to the city to sort out the issue, Ramadoss said, adding that she should give a categorical assurance to the students that her government would not allow private medical colleges.
