Chennai, Dec 05: PMK today opposed the Kerala government's move to construct a dam in the upper reaches of Bhavani River as it would convert the fertile Coimbatore and Erode districts of Tamil Nadu to deserts. Kerala government's move to construct a dam across the river in the upper reaches would only deprive Tamil Nadu of its due share of water, PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss told reporters here.
He said the river, originating in Nilgiri district in Tamil Nadu, re-enters the state in Coimbatore after traversing through Kerala.
Tamil Nadu should oppose Kerala's moves and not 'sleep now' at it did when Karnataka was constructing dams across Cauvery River, creating water shortage in the Cauvery delta, he said.
