Srinagar, July 28: Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that a comprehensive scheme would be formulated for rehabilitation of dwellers in the world famous Dal Lake who have to be relocated at an alternate site in phases. Reviewing progress on cleaning of Dal Lake and other related schemes at a high level meeting here this morning, the chief minister said he would himself visit Chandpora area shortly where a chunk of land has been identified for carving out about 2000 plots to rehabilitate the persons to be relocated from Dal area.
In the first phase, 600 plots are to be developed. He said that the colony should be properly designed with best possible civic amenities.
Sayeed said that when the entire project is cleared by the Central Government, the rehabilitation part should be given to priority. He also called for chasing the project so that work on it starts immediately.
Stressing the need for a coordinated action for removing encroachments, the chief minister asked for prioritizing components of Rs 269 crore Dal development project.
Sayeed said paucity of funds would not be allowed to come in the way of restoration of Dal Lake to its pristine glory. He said that sewerage disposal should also be taken due care.
