Jaipur, Sept 17: Rajasthan government today suspended a Sub-Divisional Officer and two police officers in connection with yesterday`s police firing on Bajrang Dal workers in
Jhalawar district and ordered a probe into the incident by a senior IAS officer.
Divisional Commissioner, Kota, Manohar Kant, has been
assigned the inquiry into the incident on the direction of
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, an official spokesman said here.
A Sub-Divisional Officer, posted in Aklera where the incident occurred, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, and the Station House Officer of Aklera police station have been suspended from service pending the inquiry, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the situation in Aklera town was officially stated to be tense but under control with additional police force deployed there.
About 20 persons, including 12 policemen, had been injured in pelting of stones by Bajrang Dal workers and local villagers and subsequent police firing at Aklera yesterday.
Police alleged that the trouble started when Bajrang Dal workers going from Aklera to Jhalawar by a roadways bus in connection with the Sankalp Sutra function to create mass awareness for temple construction in Ayodhya refused to purchase tickets and the driver brought the vehicle to the police station where the Dal workers joined by villagers turned violent.
Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal has given a call for a bandh in Jhalawar district today to protest the police firing.
