Lucknow, Sept 21: Former Uttar Pradesh minister Amarmani Tripathi was arrested by the CBI here today in connection with the poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case. The arrest followed the matching of the blood samples of Tripathi and the foetus of the slain poetess in a DNA test, a CBI spokesman in Delhi said. Tripathi was interrogated by a five-member CBI team.
Sources said five-member CBI team reached Tripathi`s residence and took him to the agency`s office for questioning. Twenty-four-year-old poetess Madhumita Shukla was killed at her residence here on May 9 by two assailants.
The killing had created a political furore leading to the sacking of Tripathi from the then Mayawati-led government in the state. The case was later handed over to the CBI.
The CBI spokesman said the agency received the DNA report today from Central Forensic Laboratory in Hyderabad.
Asked if Tripathi`s wife could also be arrested in connection with the case, the CBI spokesman said, "If need arises, anyone can be arrested in this case." Bureau Report
