Mumbai, Nov 06: On a prosecution plea, a special court has deferred till November 18 the bail plea of Iqbal Kaskar, younger brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and accused in a case of alleged land grabbing. As prosecutor Rohini Salian sought time to file a reply, the designated judge A P Bhangale yesterday adjourned the bail plea of Iqbal to November 18.
This is for the first time Iqbal has sought bail from the special court since his arrest under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act on March 19.
Iqbal's lawyer Sham Keswani pleaded that the police had not made out any case against his client and urged for his bail on the ground that MCOCA was not applicable to him.
Iqbal was arrested under MCOCA after he was deported from Dubai. He is facing the charges of channelising funds of the underworld into the real estate in Mumbai.
Iqbal and his associates allegedly developed Sara Business Centre and Sahara Shopping Complex in south Mumbai with underworld money. These shopping complexes were illegal and have been attached by the court in an interim measure.
According to police, Dawood had pumped a lot of money into the real estate here by purchasing old buildings and converting them into multiplexes. Bureau Report
