Bhopal, May 08: A World Bank (WB) team visited three villages in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district and talked to the beneficiaries of `Bal Sanjeevani' campaign going on across the state to diagnose the level of malnutrition among mothers and infants. The team, including the World Bank India head P Subramaniam, WB Nepal head Tirtha Rana and Unicef's (Bhopal) Vandana Agrawal, visited Narvar, Matan and Kala villages on Tuesday and talked to the people's representatives of panchayat bodies, rural women and children, an official release said here today.
The `Bal Sanjeevani' campaign has been launched in the state to detect and treat cases of malnutrition. Expectant, lactating mothers and infants are medically examined at special camps and their weight is measured to assess the stage of malnutrition.

The WB team members met villagers and inspired them to seek health facilities and prepare nutritious food at home at the lowest expenses. The members said active participation of panchayats and their representatives would help rural families become aware of the menace of malnutrition.

At the initiative of the state government, a number of school children studying in high schools have become voluntary health workers to persuade expectant mothers, family members and the parents to visit special health camps and to monitor weight of infants.

Commissioner (women and child development) O P Rawat accompanied the team, the release added.
