As part of the exercise to revamp the party organisation in the wake of the recent electoral defeats, BJP president Jana Krishnamurthy on Thursday appointed former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Rajnath Singh as the incharge of his own state besides Uttaranchal. Singh replaces former party president Kushabhau Thakre, who was shifted yesterday to the region comprising east and North-Eastern states following the party's debacle in the two northern states.

Krishnamurthy also appointed party general secretary and spokesman Sunil Shastri as in charge (Prabhari) of Tamil Nadu, Sangh Priya Gautam (Punjab and Chandigarh) and Ram Das Agarwal (Gujarat) in the third phase of the ongoing overhaul.

Agarwal, however, will continue to be in charge of the Aajeewan Sahayog Nidhi (Lifelong Associate Trust), set up to generate funds for the party in a transparent manner.
Party vice president Kailashpathi Mishra was on Wednesday made in charge of central zone which comprises Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh while Thakre takes charge of east zone covering West Bengal, Tripura, Assam, North Eastern states and Orissa.
