The much awaited report on the communal riots in Gujarat was submitted by the Centre to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday evening, a day from the schedule submission of the report, official sources said in New Delhi. The report was submitted a day after the commission had given two weeks more time to the Centre for submission of the report as they had failed to submit it by on Tuesday. The Centre, which had filed an interim report last week, had sought time till Tuesday to file a comprehensive report stating that they need time to gather information from various ministries regarding Gujarat. However, it was not immediately known about the findings of the Centre on the communal riots in Gujarat riots. The comprehensive report by Gujarat government lacked full details, the sources said, adding that the report only responded to the proceedings of the commission and not the narration of critical cases by the NHRC.
The commission had accused Gujarat government of failing to take action leading to communal riots in the state and asked it to entrust probe of critical cases of violence to CBI and establish special courts to try the culprits, which has been rejected by the state government.
