French Open winner Jennifer Capriati pulled out of the Den Bosch WTA tournament on Friday, WTA sources said.
Capriati, also the Australian Open Champion, would have been the top seed for the Grasscourt event which starts on Monday.
Capriati's reasons for missing the tournament will be announced later by the governing body of women's tennis.
The withdrawal could hamper Capriati's preparation for Wimbledon, beginning on June 25, as she attempts to become the first player since Steffi Graf in 1988 to complete a grand slam of the four major singles titles. Belgian Kim Clijsters, beaten by Capriati in the Roland Garros final on Saturday, will replace her as the top seed in Den Bosch.
Jelena dokic and Justine Henin, who withdrew from the Edgbaston Open with an ankle injury, are also in the draw.
