New Delhi, June 06: In a bid to save the cultural heritage of the national capital, DDA and the union urban development ministry have taken up the task to give a facelift to 13th century Sultanate Tomb.
An integrated and holistic approach is being adopted to prepare the urban design of the tomb, focussing on its protection with long term objectives of environmental improvement and regeneration of the area, a DDA release said here yesterday.
DDA has already constructed the boundary wall with finished random rubble hand chiseled quartzite stone columns and the entrance gate has been made with minarets done in Dholpur stone to match the existing Sultan Garhi tomb, the release said.
The foundation was set up under the chairmanship of the Lt Governor of Delhi Vijai Kapoor along with chief architect of DDA as member secretary, with the purpose of protecting the built-up and natural heritage of Delhi through collaborative efforts.
The tomb is one of the earliest monumental Sultanate tombs in India, built in 1231 by Iltutmish.
