New Delhi, Aug 21: The fastest personal computer is here in India. Apple Computers on Wednesday unveiled here the Power Mac G5 with a 64-bit desktop processor with a memory expansion capability of up to eight gigabyte.
Delivering the industry’s highest system bandwidth, the G5 line offers dual 2.0 GHz PowerPC GS processors, each with an independent 1 GHz frontside bus, for 16 GBps of bandwidth.
“The Power Mac G5, with its 64-bit desktop processor, will have great appeal among Photoshop users, print publishers, designers and video editors,” Richard Ng, product manager (Asia-Pacific), Apple, said here.
32-bit has been around for over a decade now, while 64-bit has been predominantly in the server space. This is where the G5 aims to score. And it has come with a large arsenal of features.
An additional feature is a new breakthrough in video conferencing – the iChat AV software application and the iSight digital video camera – which enables high-quality video-conferencing between two Mac users over any broadband connection. The iChat AV requires no set-up or configuration beyond installing the software and plugging in any FireWire video camera and microphone.
