New Delhi, Jan.11: In a bid to encourage knowledge-based industries in Madhya Pradesh, the state government is setting up two biotechnology parks which are expected to be operational this year, a top government official said today.

"As a part of our plan to encourage knowledge-based industries, we are setting up two biotechnology parks, one each in Indore and Bhopal," K Shankaranayana, principal secretary (finance), Madhya Pradesh, said on the sidelines of the ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Divas’ meet here. He said that the state is also setting up world-class institute of life sciences under the guidance of Dr R A Mashelkar, chief of council of scientific and industrial research, to fuel research in this area and had already created a biodiversity board.

The government was also developing a special economic zone in Indore for which it had already received 15 applications, apart Rom setting up two it parks.

Earlier speaking at the session, he invited non- resident Indians and PIOs from Madhaya Pradesh to invest in the state, saying that it was best suited for setting up horticultural, agro-based, food processing units.
Shankaranarayana said that the state government was making all efforts to improve infrastructural bottlenecks and about $ 700 million are being invested in development of roads over the next two years and added that the state electricity board had also been corporatised.
