Los Angeles, Oct 21: US film star Robert de Niro has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, but his prospects for recovery are considered good, his publicist said.
"Doctors say the condition was detected at an early stage because of regular checkups, a result of his proactive personal healthcare program," publicist Stan Rosenfield said in a statement yesterday.
He said 60-year-old de Niro was otherwise in "excellent physical condition" and complete recovery was expected.
One of the most popular actors in Hollywood, de Niro has won two Oscars for best actor and has had six Oscar nominations.
Hollywood celebrities who have survived prostate cancer include actor Charlton Heston and singer Harry Belafonte.
According to us health officials, the disease affects one in every six American men.
