Lucknow, Aug 06: Alarmed at reports of synthetic milk trade flourishing in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government today decided to launch a 15-day long drive to carry out random checks and initiate stern action against those indulging in it.
Random checks would be carried out at Meerut, Agra, Varanasi and Lucknow during the drive and stern action would be taken against those found indulging in such practices under the Food Adulteration Act, Minister of State for Animal Husbandary and Mild Development Laxmikant Bajpaye told here.
If need be the government would not hesitate in taking action against the culprits under the National Security Act as some unscrupulous elements were playing with the health of lakhs of people by supplying synthetic milk, Bajpaye said.
Four teams each would be constituted with food inspectors as its members for carrying out tests and the reports of samples taken would be made available to the District Magistrates the same day so that prompt action could be taken against those found guilty of supplying synthetic milk, the Minister said.
Earlier in the day, the Minister convened a high level meeting of the state officials to review reports of spurt in the trade of synthetic milk.
