Madikeri, Jan 01: Madikeri, district headquarters of Kodagu, is a beautiful city and has many interesting places for visitors. Among them are the palace and the fort. The fort has been occupied by many departments of the state government as well as by the district jail, court, and library. The palace is occupied by the zilla panchayat and the district commissioner’s offices. Tourists visiting Madikeri wish to see the palace, but, they are unable to view it as it has been converted into a government office.The life-size artwork of elephants, a museum in the fort and some parts of the fort are all that they get to see. The fort and palace which are declared protected monuments belong to the Central Archeological Survey of India.
