Bangalore, Nov 11: Andhra Pradesh has requested Karnataka to send a team of officials for discussions on sharing of inter-state river waters between the two states, minister for water resources H K Patil said today. Patil told reporters that the state would send the team.


Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna and his counterpart in Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu had recently met in Bangalore and emphasised the need to resolve the water sharing issues between them through dialogue.

Patil said that Suresh Prabhu, who is heading the task force on inter-linking of rivers, submitted to the state government today the proposals of national water development agency for its consideration.
The proposals related to linking of the Rivers Mahanadi to Godavari, Godavari to Krishna, Krishna to Pennar, Pennar to Cauvery, Cauvery to Vaidehi and Vaidehi to Gundur, which could result in the transfer of 395 TMC ft of water to deficit areas.

Patil said the state made it clear to Prabhu during his meeting with Krishna that resolving of disputes like the sharing of surplus Krishna waters would help pave the way for inter-linking of rivers.
