Obihiro (Japan), Sept 27: An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter Scale jolted the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido early today in a series of aftershocks following the previous day's massive quake. The latest quake occurred at 5:38 am (0208 IST) in the pacific off the southeastern coast of Hokkaido Island, the meteorological agency said.
Its focus was located 30 km below sea-level, some 750 km north of Tokyo, the agency said. No tidal wave warning was issued.
A powerful earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter Scale yesterday rocked northern Japan, injuring around 480 people and forcing thousands more to evacuate their homes.
