Chandigarh, May 18: The heat wave sweeping across Punjab and Haryana today intensified with the temperature running four degrees above normal in the capital city at 42 degrees and Hissar sizzling under 44.4 Celsius. Amritsar also recorded a four degrees above normal high at 43.2 C while Patiala, with a high of 42.9 C and Ludhiana 42, the met office said. Heat wave conditions also gripped Ambala which recorded four degrees above normal at 42.7 C, it said. Though pleasant at 27.6 C, Shimla also recorded above normal temperatures by five degrees, while the maximum of 33.9 C at Bhuntar and 38.4 C at Sundernagar was also up by upto four degrees. The met office has forecast mainly dry weather in the region for the next two days while dust storms and thunder storms have been forecast in Punjab.
