New Delhi, June 02: A Lok Sabha MP from Karnataka today requested prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to immediately withdraw the security cover provided to former premier H D Deve Gowda and his family members as they are misusing the SPG personnel.

It is observed that the family members of former prime minister are misusing the SPG personnel for their illegal activities therefore, I would request you to kindly take necessary steps to withdraw the security cover provided to H D Deve Gowda and his family members immediately, G Putta Swami Gowda said in a letter to Vajpayee. The committee formed by the home ministry to review the security cover for former prime ministers and their family members has recommended to withdraw it in view of no cases of threats from any quarters, he said.

Gowda had completed five years after delimiting office and no great decisions were taken during his tenure, which would keep him under constant threat for such a long time, Swami Gowda said and claimed that the former premier was creating euphoria among the common people, during his movements with SPG in and around Bangalore.

Swami Gowda also requested Vajpayee to initiate action to introduce an amendment in the SPG act in the next Parliament session to ensure that SPG security be provided to those former prime ministers who really are under threat or the period of SPG facility be extended to only one year after demitting from the office.
