Chennai, June 14: TNCC working president E V K S Elangovan today described as 'unncessary' and 'unwanted', Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's remarks that Congress president Sonia Gandhi should not be allowed to become the prime minister, as she was a foreigner. He told reporters here that Jayalalithaa was in the habit of hurling charges against Sonia Gandhi. This was only meant to divert the attention of the people from the 'failures of her government', he said.
Elangovan said that Jayalalithaa would do well to remember that she had twice become the chief minister of the state only with Congress support.
In 1991, she held the high office due to a 'sympathy wave' generated by the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. She won the 2001 assembly polls only due to the backing of the Congress, he claimed.
